Host Orissa gathered five points by virtue of taking first-innings lead against Assam in their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match, which ended in draw on the last day at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today. Assam settled with three points.
This was Orissa’s 50th Ranji Trophy match, which featured two wins, 34 defeats and 14 draws. Orissa captain N N Swamy put up impressive performance in this match, bagging five wickets in the first innings and scoring 44 runs in the only innings of the home team. He also completed 100 first-class wickets in the process. Vinod Gupta made his first-class debut for Orissa in this match.
